The old round ram M-head Bridgeports are the shortest mills that Bridgeport ever made. This one had a 32-inch table (the smallest Bridgeport ever produced) and a 9-inch knee instead of the now more common 12-inch knee. The Bridgeport came with a home-brew 1->3 phase rotary converter. This was an idler style arrangement with a large heavy motor.

There was a problem with the head when I bought the machine, rather than spend money to repair, I replaced it with a new J-head I already had. I have several round ram machines and had planned to install the new head on one of these machines. The S/N of the Bridgeport is: 43440587.
The Problem: A Bridgeport mill (old cylinder ram model [under construction - meanwhile, here's the patent] with an M head and the little 32 inch table) has to be moved from Gold Machinery, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to the middle of Massachusetts, a matter of a trifling 60 miles or so, and moved into a residential cellar which lacks any civilized access to ground level.
